Certified Professional Midwives practice within the framework of the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) national standards for midwifery practice as well as in accordance with their own practice guidelines, skill level and conscience.

MMA offers a Grievance Process to the public and midwives practicing in Missouri. A person with first-hand knowledge of the incident may file a written complaint. The midwife is given the opportunity to bring a defense to any complaint before action is taken against her.

The Grievance Review Board may make the following recommendations to the MMA Ethics Council:

  • issue a warning or reprimand;
  • require further education and/or training;
  • revoke, suspend or deny the Ethics Council Certificate;
  • issue orders that the midwife immediately cease and desist the practice of midwifery;
  • or refer to the prosecuting attorney or other appropriate authority.
  • The Grievance Process may be initiated by filing a written complaint with the MMA Grievance Review Board. Please contact the Grievance Board for more information: Grievance@MissouriMidwivesAssociation.org.
